UWB vs Wi-Fi / BLE
The table below compares the parameters of UWB, Wi-Fi and BLE positioning (for reference only):
| Technology | UWB | BLE | Wi-Fi |
|---|---|---|---|
| Frequency range | 3.1–10.6 GHz | 2.4 GHz | 2.4 / 5.8 GHz |
| Data rate | Up to hundreds of Mbps | Up to 2 Mbps | Up to Gbps |
| Positioning latency | <1 ms | 3–5 s | 3–5 s |
| Range | Best 0–50 m, up to 200 m | Best 0–25 m, up to 100 m | Best 0–50 m, up to 100 m |
| Positioning accuracy | <10 cm, angle <3° | RSSI: 5–10 m; AoA: 0.5–1 m | <10 m |
| Security | Higher | High | High |
| Penetration | Strong | Weak | Strong |
| Anti-interference | Strong | Weak | Strong |
| Power consumption | Low | Lower | High |
As you can see: BLE positioning latency runs to seconds and its accuracy is metre-level; Wi-Fi is fast but power-hungry, and its positioning accuracy is also metre-level. Only UWB delivers millisecond latency + centimetre accuracy + low power at the same time.
